Isiaka Pledges to Boost Ogun Economy via Grants, Autonomy

The gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) has pledged to make giving grants and operational autonomy to cooperative groups and traders as part of his strategies to drive economic growth in Ogun State when elected into office.

Isiaka who made the promise  at Saala-Orile Yewa North Local government of the state during his campaign tour of the area, said Ogun is blessed with an array of resources, adding that when effectively harnessed,  could rapidly transform its socioeconomic landscape.

The ADC governorship candidate mooted the idea of grants and autonomy following request for same by both representatives of Traders Union and Cooperative Societies in Yewa North. 

According to the groups, they were tired of being given loans with interest, even as they get over-taxed, pleading with the governorship hopeful to put their welfare on his agenda.  

Mr.  Kehinde Wahab, representative of the Farmer's Association appealed for support in agriculture, observing that Ogun State has the potential to surpass Lagos State's economy if the agricultural sector is given the needed support.  

Iyaloja of Yewaland, Alhaja Yemisi Abass while pledging her group's allegiance to Isiaka said "Our suffering is too much. We have never had market bigger.  Provision should be made for us in the state's  budget in the spirit of fairness. It is time for us to fastrack development in the market.  The economy of our markets must flourish."

 Isiaka said: "I can assure you that we will look at how this can be done.  Grants and autonomy will be taken into full cognizance.  It is a deal that I want to assure you all on."

According to the ADC governorship candidate, "Reworking the economic model of Ogun State is top priority for us because there is no plan at the moment. The potential is huge and I recognize the real sector, being SMEs as a driver of growth, hence they shall be our focus with support that is not going to further burden them."

According to him, the greater Ogun state agenda is  that of  self sustaining state, where every citizen will be productive and prosperous.
