Ogun State government has says its resolve to fix the 32 km Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole road in Ifo local government area of the state and a section of the Lagos - Sango Ota - Abeokuta road has nothing to do with  politics of 2023 general elections.

The state government recalls that it made series of efforts in the past to particularly fix some portions of Lagos - Sango Ota - Abeokuta road, which prompted governor Dapo Abiodun to visit Abuja at least four times in respect of the state's determination to tackle the deplorable portion of it but added that the Federal Government (FG) advised that it could not be done by state as it was already tied to an existing contract.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alh. Waheed Odusile, who made the clarification while fielding question from journalists at Chief Segun Osoba Press Centre, Abeokuta, recalled that the Ogun State in conjunction with the Lagos State Government also jointly requested that the road be given to them to fix because of its strategic importance to both states and the daily pains users experience due to its deplorable condition.

Odusile explained that the resolve to begin palliative work on the road from Singer stretch of it to Toll gate end, has nothing to do with politics of 2023 or related matters as might have been erroneously perceived in some quarters.

According to him, given all the efforts made so far to have the FG give Ogun leave to fix the road but without light at the end of the tunnel, in addition to the uncertainty over when the FG will fix it, the state had elected to now do something about it to lessen the suffering of road users.

Odusile also said the approval has also been given by the State Executive Council at its meeting on Monday to begin reconstruction of Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole end of Ogun State to the Yakoyo-Ojodu-Berger end in Lagos, was  began in 2013 but abandoned by the immediate past administration.

He said that work would also commence simultaneously on the 7.5km stretch of the Singer-Toll Gate axis of the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos Expressway, which he described as very deplorable for motorists and commuters plying the road.

He explained that though other sections of the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road have been marked for rehabilitation, the state government decided to prioritise the Singer-Toll Gate axis as a result of its worst condition.

Speaking further on the Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Alagbole-Akute road, the State Commissioner for Works, Ade Adesanya, said complete reconstruction would be carried out on both the Sango and Yakoyo ends of the road

According to him, the contractor handling the project will start by constructing the 8.5km on the Sango-Ijoko end and 1.5km on Yakoyo-Mr Biggs end on the Lagos axis.

While pointing that work would be completed on both roads in December 2022, Adesanya added that reconstruction of a section of the two-lane Mowe-Ofada road would commence in earnest, with the aim of constructing a massive flood drain to tackle the flooding on the road.
