Imeko - Ifon Indigenes Lament Over Marginalisation, Neglect

••• Ask Governor Abiodun To Correct Imbalance In Political Appointment

Indigenes of Imeko - Afon under the aegis of Ibile Alliance of Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed dismay and worry over alleged marginalisation of the area by Dapo Abiodun led administration in the state.

The people particularly called for the immediate correction of the obvious imbalance in appointment and evident marginalization of Imeko/Afon in the State Executive Council despite the fact that the àrea has many educated, exposed, and experienced indigenes who have distinguished themselves in their various areas of specializations.

Addressing reporters in Abeokuta, the state capital, Com. Olutunde Aninkan who spoke on behalf of members of the people on Monday, also demanded an urgent declaration of state of emergency on Abeokuta-Ayetoro-Imeko and Imeko-Oke-Agbede-Moriwi-Iwoye Roads to tackle the untold hardship and incessant insecurity that have continued to plague their people.

Aninkan recalled that the last time Imeko Afon people had representatives in government was at a period between  2011 and 2015 during the administion of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, expressing the hope that Abiodun would listen to them and address the issues raised in order to restore their confidence in his government.

According to him, attending their demand is the only way to give them a sense of belonging as equal stakeholders in the affairs of the State as enthused in his inclusive governance mantra of "Building Our Future Together."

He said, "With saddened hearts, we continue to wallow in suffering and endangerment of our lives and properties as a result of bad road networks, contributing to the incessant security pervading our land.
For instance, the Abeokuta-Ayetoro-Imeko road, which is the main artery to our local government and Imeko-Oke-Agbede-Moriwi-Iwoye Road are major link roads that deserve urgent Government attention and priority.

"We understand these are federal roads as they link the neighbouring country of Republic of Benin.  Nevertheless, our performing governor has, since assumption of office, reconstructed and repaired three Federal roads viz-a-viz Ijebu-Ode-Epe Road, Abeokuta-Sagamu interchange Road Atan-Lusada-Agbara Road, taking on the fourth now i.e Abeokuta-Sango-Ota Road.

"We plead with His Excellency to consider us too in Imeko-Afon Local Government as these roads are not only contibutory to improved economic prosperities of the State through smooth movement of goods and farm produce but also promote international trade and security.

"Let it be known today that, of peculiarity, are towns and villages in two wards of the local government i.e Oke Agbede/Moriwi/Matale and Iwoye/Jabata that have been completely cut off from the rest in the local government as the people now access their various towns and villages through Ilara and Republic of Benin i.e Ilara(Nigeria)-Ilikimu-Dinrin-Akpotopku(Benin Republic)-Jabata-Iwoye and then Oke Agbede.

" It will interest you to know that INEC and Census official will undertake same route to perform their statutory duties in those two wards. Are we still truly indigenes of Ogun State? How sure are we that our votes and figures would be safely guided and guarded to the INEC and National Population Commission headquarters? You will agree with me that bad road network gives flips to insecurity in our land subjecting our people to fear of survival.

"While we have taken the pains to detail our grouses and displeasure about the unpleasant development, it is our expectation that His Excellency the Governor will begin to take immediate action to effect the necessary corrections."
