The Ex - Local Government Political Office Holders ( 12 - 15 Congress) in Ogun State have expressed their willingness to demonstrate high level of understanding and maturity in demanding that governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration pay them their entilement as pronounced by by a competent court in respect of the N3.5bn judgement debt delivered in their favour.
Justice Dele Peters of the Ibadan division of National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) had on Monday, February 14, 2022 ordered the Ogun state government to pay N3.5bn to
the ex - local government political office holders.
The court also ordered that the amount be paid with 15% interest within 30 days to the day the judgement was delivered.
The said amount was deemed the cumulative money deducted from their salaries under the keen watch of the then administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Amosun is now representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
The shortchanged political office holders, numbering over 500 had dragged the Ogun State Government, the governor and over a dozen others to the Industrial Court in May 2020, after several unsuccessful attempts to have an audience with Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The Daily Crucible learnt that Amosun had via a memo while serving as governor, caused one-third of their salaries to be deducted routinely under the guise that the money was being saved for them.
But the people soon kicked against it, arguing that the action contravened the Ogun State Local Government Law 2008, recalling that when they were leaving office in 2015, the money was not given to them.
However, reprieve came their way on the recent Valentine's Day when Justice Dele Peters held that deducting the salaries of the appointees via a memo was illegal, adding that anything against statutory law was obnoxious, null and void.
He, therefore, ordered the state government to pay the deducted salaries of the political office holders with 15% interest within 30 days to the day the judgement was delivered.

Elated by the favourable court judgement, the affected ex - local government political appointees conducted interdenominational
Thanksgiving and praises to God at the weekend in Abeokuta, the state capital, for seeing them through the challenging court battle.
At the event attended by their leader and State Coordinator, Com. Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, all LG Coordinators and state executive, they also used the opportunity to appraise the journey so far and resolved to cooperate and continually demonstrate high level of maturity and understanding in demanding their entitlements as pronounced by the court, hoping that the government will also reciprocate the gesture.
They, however, acknowledged the commendable developmental projects of the state government and promised not to hinder such legacies in any disguise and to rather cooperate as well as support the government to do more.
The affected ex - local government office holders also agreed to still honour the state government if their previous requests for audience with the governor which were submitted before the February 14 judgement was delivered, received his attention.
