APC Ratifies Results Of Wards Congress In Ogun, Others

.By Jane Okafor,  Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has ratified and adopted the results of the Party's nationwide Ward Congresses, including  that of Ogun State,  held on Saturday July 31st, 2021.

The CECPC also approves the immediate inauguration of Ward Executives by state caretaker committees based on the outcome of the said congresses.

Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe,
National Secretary, Caretaker /Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) for APC, made this known on Wednesday in a release.

This followed  resolutions of the 16th Meeting of the APC CECPC on September 1, 2021 at the National Secretariat, Buhari House, Abuja.

The CECPC, therefore,  directs that the conduct of nationwide Local Government Congresses proceeds accordingly by Saturday September 4th, 2021 as contained in the official timetable /schedule of activities released the party.

The Daily Crucible recalls that the ward congress was conducted in 34 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but the exercise was postponed in Anambra, Bayelsa and the Zamfara States.

Also,  the party on August 11 inaugurated the Ward Congress Appeal Committees following petitions from the States.

While  the inauguration of the Appeal Committees lasted , the National Chairman, Gov. Mai Mala Buni, through the CECPC Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, urged members to be fair in their dealing with issues raised by aggrieved party members.

In Ogun State,  the Ward Congress Appeal Committee of the APC entertained the petitions from two serving Senators - Senator Lekan Mustapha (Ogun East) and Tolu Odebiyi (Ogun West) during  its sitting in Abeokuta.

The two senators had challenged the conduct of the Ward Congress before a five man Appeal Panel sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Apart from the two Senators, elected party chairmen of 2018 in the state as well as some members of Congress committee also submitted petitions.

During the hearing, during which journalists were asked not to witness the proceeding, the panel invited all the parties in the petitions to defend allegations and counter allegations in respect of the congress.

It was gathered that 2023 agenda and who decides the political destiny of members over elective offices in 2023 were the precursors of the disagreement among the APC gladiators regarding the Congress and its outcome.

However, the Chairman of the five- man committee, Hon. Segun Ojo,  did say at the time that members listened carefully to all the petitioners and those in defence.

Ojo said: "We attended to all the petitioners till late night on Wednesday, and we will be here to listen to any other. All the petitioners have the interest of the party at heart. They want the party to be strong and united.

"There's no acrimony in the party in the State.  APC is in government in the state and we will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace of the state or disorganise the party.

He assured that the Committee would make its recommendations known and submit its report to the national body, adding that the effect of the report would be a guide to the forthcoming local government Congress.

Ojo added, "It is a plus for Ogun state  political class to have former governors of the State in the party. We will not allow any to disorganise the party. The party is one that is taking care of internal issues."
