The authority of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Enugu, has suspended one of its lecturer, Dr. Chigozie Jude Odum, of the Department of Archeology and Tourism, for alleged "sexual harassment" of a female student of the department.
The suspension is to allow for an unhindered investigation into the allegation brought against Dr. Odum by the affected female student.
In a letter communicating the suspension which was signed by the Deputy Registrar, Personnel Services, Achiuwa .F.C. and addressed to the lecturer, the authority the suspension is with immediate effect.
It also directed to stay from duty post and hands any University property in his custody over to the Head of Department while he will be enjoying half salary pending when the sexual harassment case is disposed.
"You are hereby suspended from duty with immediate effect.
"You should stay away from you duty post until the final determination of the allegation against you. You should also handover any University property in your custody the Head, Department of Archeology and Tourism," the suspension letter reads.
The Daily Crucible couldn't reach Dr. Odum for reaction but the UNN branch of the Academic Staff Union of Union of Universities (ASUU) said nobody has communicated to the union formally about the suspension of any lecturer.
The UNN - ASUU chairman, Dr. Opata Christian, told our reporter that the lecturers got knowledge of it like every other person because the said "suspension is in circulation everywhere on the social media."
