The Academic Staff Union of University, on Wednesday morning suspended its almost 9months industrial action that started in March 2020.
ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja.
The cheery development followed assurance by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige that the prolonged strike by the nation's university lecturers would be called off before January 15.
Ogunyemi expressed the lecturers' sympathy with students who have had to remain at home instead of school for the better part of this year.
“No amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments," he said.
