Some officers from the Eagle Crack Squad who allegedly tortured late Chima Ikwunador to death in December 2019 and unlawfully inflicted various degrees of injury on Ifeanyi Onyekwere, Ogbonna Victor, Ifeanyi Osuji, and Osaze Friday have been arraigned in Court today.
The affected officers were dismissed yesterday by the Rivers State Police Command and charged to Court for Conspiracy and Murder, among others.
The Officers who had also gone through the processes of Orderly Room Trials were de-kitted on Monday and dismissed from the Force, hence their arraignment, Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nnamdi Omoni, has said.
Omoni, who is the Command's Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), said the decision followed the resolve of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Joseph G. Mukan to tackle cases of unprofessional conducts of the officers and men of the Command.
Mukan had in his maiden Press Briefing on assumption of duty in the State, promised to address all cases of infractions and unprofessional conduct of the Officers and men of the Command, and to offer quality Policing Services to the State.
According the Rivers Police Spokesman, in a release, the dismissal is an eloquent demonstration of the Commissioner's transparency and avowed commitment to entrench Discipline in the Command.
He appealed to the public to remain steadfast and continue to have Faith in the Police, by assisting with useful information that could enhance their job.
He added that Command's doors are open to welcomes constructive criticisms.
