Rt. Honourable Iroju Ogundeji, Hon. Jamiu Maito, Hon.Rasheed Elegbeleye and four other lawmakers of the Ondo State House of Assembly have written the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, distancing themselves from the thickening process to impeach Deputy Governor Alfred Ajayi.
Since the frosty relationship between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Ajayi, took a worrisome dimension over clash of ambition, the allegation is rife that Akeredolu is labouring to arm twist the state lawmakers led by Oleyelogun to impeach Ajayi and strip him of political relevance ahead of the November Governorship election in the state.
14 pro - Akeredolu lawmakers led by the Speaker had already served the Deputy Governor an impeachment notice with 7 infractions, including gross misconduct, alleged to have been committed by him.
Ajayi, a popular grassroot politician and big weight in the politics of Sunshine State, is said to be scheming to succeed Akeredolu and seeking to achieve this ambition on another political platform, a development that didn't sit well with Akeredolu.
But on Tuesday morning, Rt. Honourable Iroju Ogundeji, Hon. Jamiu Maito, Hon.Rasheed Elegbeleye and four other lawmakers in a letter dated July 7, 2020 and addressed to the Speaker, declared that they will not partake in the impeachment process against Ajayi.
Below is the said letter.
