Ogun State Government appeared set to begin distribution of Land Use and Amenities Charge bill for property owners as part of measures to shore up revenue generation needed for socio-economic development.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Hassan Adekunle, made this known in his office, Oke - Mosan, Abeokuta during a media chat.
Adekunle revealed that distribution of the bills would be for owners of industrial, commercial and residential properties in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
He noted that the State Government has further made payment of the Land Use and Amenities Charge very convenient for people, saying payment could be made possible through the online platform by using the REMITA platform at any commercial bank nationwide.
He called on property owners to ensure prompt payment of the charge using the stipulated government channels.
“Payments of bill of demand notices can be made online via https://pay.luac.ogunstate.gov.ng or by using the REMITA platform which comes with a unique Payment Code or at any bank branch nationwide.
"The demand notice now has a QR Code for validation of the bill from the Ogun State Government. Receipts for payment are now automatically generated once payments are made, hence customers will no longer need to visit our office for payment clearance,” Adekunle stressed.
The Permanent Secretary also enjoined the people to comply with instructions of the officials of the State Government, as non-compliance would result to property on which the charge is payable to be liable to confiscation by the State Government by means of a sealing order by the Court upon a motion on notice filed by the State to its appointed agent until all outstanding taxes, penalties, and administrative charges are paid.
"It is worthy of note that the Land Use & Amenities Charge is backed by the Land Use and Amenities Law of 2013, which was introduced to harmonise all land use based charges collected by the State and Local Governments under one single charge for ease of administration and collection," he added.
