Ogun State House of Assembly has inaugurated a tripartite Ad-hoc Commitee to examine all petitions on illegal revenue and ticketting scheme being operated at the various Local Government Areas and the State.

The Ad - hoc Committee comprising Industry, Trade and Investment, Finance and Appropriation as well as Public Accounts will be chaired by the Deputy Speaker,  Honourable Oludare Kadiri.

Speaker Kunle Oluomo, who announced the membership of the House Committees on Tuesday, called on affected individuals and groups in the State to forward their petitions on such illegal act to the Assembly through the House's Clerk.

Oluomo noted that the Assembly had been inundated with avalanche of petitions lately over taxation, ticketting and illegal revenue collection, which had foisted far reaching hardship on Ogun residents and citizens amid COVID - 19 pandemic.

The Speaker said the setting up of the  ad-hoc committee became urgent and imperative to address the issue within two weeks.

The Daily Crucible had in its July 15 edition, reports that the Ogun Assembly warned Local Governments' Transition Caretaker Chairmen against alleged collection of unauthorised transportation levies from transporters by their respective Councils.

Oluomo issued the stern warning following an alleged collection of illegal levy by the officials or agents of Remo North and Ijebu North Local Government Councils as well as other parts of the State.

The issue was raised in the House by Hon. Solomon Osho under Personal Explanation, who reported the alleged extortion of Okada riders by the Chairman, Transition Committee of Remo North Local Government during the House's plenary

The Speaker noted that he had equally received protest letters from different people on the matter especially from Remo North and Ijebu North Local Government Areas.

He pointed out that after the Harmonized Revenue Law had been passed by the State House of Assembly, it was illegal for anyone to introduce any other fee under the guise of revenue collection.

He also called on the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape, to set machineries in motion to stop the illegal collection of the fee in order not to put unnecessary financial burden on the people of the State.

The Daily Crucible gathered that in Abeokuta North for example, some unsuspecting motorists were made to pay outrageous fines under the guise that they had driven on one - way traffic without the Council putting prior road signs to warn them before hand.
