The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has passionately appealed to Yoruba ethnic nationality in Nigeria to ignore the comment credited to governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Ladi Adebutu, that the Southwest geopolitical zone is greedy for demanding the presidency in 2023.
The Association appealed to Yoruba sons and daughters - home and abroad, to have a place in their hearts to forgive Adebutu and overlook his ignorance, urging them to also not give his comment any serious attention.
Adebutu was reported to have said on Monday that, the Yorubas are not the only people that constitute the entity called Nigeria and that the ethnic group should not to be selfish over power, and support the aspiration of PDP's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 general elections.
Adebutu had argued that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and interim Head of State Ernest Shonekan - two prominent Yoruba sons, had at different dispensations, been Nigerian leaders while nobody from the North-East, Atiku Abubakar's micro - geopolitical zone, has not had a chance to produce the first citizen.
However, reacting to Adebutu's comment, the National President of NAOSS, Comrade Oluwagbemileke Ogunrombi in a statement on Tuesday, dismissed Adebutu's comment as one coming from a deluded mind.
"We want to believe that Adebutu made the comment out of his ignorant point of view.
"How can Adebutu accused the Yorubas of being greedy for demanding the presidency? How can he say that another Hausa/Fulani man should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari?
"We consider his comment a great insult to the entire Yoruba race. But, we plead with the Yorubas to ignore Adebutu's folly.
"But, we want caution him to desist from misleading the people with uncultured, ignorant comments," Ogunrombi said.
