Ogun 2023 Guber: My Candidate Is Biyi Otegbeye, Amosun Declares

Former governor Ibikunle Amosun who makes no pretense about his aversion to governor Dapo Abiodun's governorship ambition, again hinted that he would not work for him in 2023 as was the case in 2019, even though both are members of the same political party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amosun, the Senator representing Ogun Central at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Barr. Olubiyi Otegbeye from Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state, is his candidate in the March governorship 2023 poll.

He made this known on Monday in an interview he granted BBC, a Yoruba interview programme section of the news broadcasting international media giant.

And notwithstanding this, he has thrown his full weight behind the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I dont hide behind one finger to fight. Biyi Otegbeye is the person I am supporting and ADC is the party.

“For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and centre, we are supporting one person (Tinubu).”

The Daily Crucible reports that the former governor recently vowed that Dapo Abiodun won’t return in 2023, boasting he would stop at nothing to dethrone him politically next year.

The APC 2023 presidential aspirant claimed the 2019 Ogun governorship candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. AbdulKabir Akinlade, who he backed, won the election.

“You know clearly my stand on this matter, just wait very soon, you will hear from us. My stand is where I stand, I am not in support of this administration, he must be removed,”

The Abeokuta Central Senator said there was a gang-up against him in 2019, claiming those involved have since apologised.

Akinlade is now the running mate of Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state but a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta has since nullified the candidacy of Adebutu and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP not  to recognise the former federal lawmaker as candidate of the party in respect of the 2023 poll.
