Labour Party(LP) has expressed shock and disappointment at the comments credited to governor Nasir El - Rufai of Kaduna State who wished, he could order the arrest of Presidential candidate of LP, Peter Obi, using all the security apparatus when the former governor of Anambra State visited Kaduna.
The Kaduna State Governor had while Speaking at an interactive session with the Arewa Joint Committee on Monday pointed out that he could have retaliated but he wouldn’t.
“In 2013, I went to Anambra State as an official of the APC to witness the bye-election for governorship.
"Your next guest, Peter Obi was the governor, he got me arrested and detained for 48 hours in my hotel room. Now, I am the governor of Kaduna State and he is coming to Kaduna. In addition to the police and the SSS, I have one Mechanised Division Nigerian Army here, if I want to arrest and detain anyone but we are northerners, we are civilised, we don’t do things like that. I wish you all safe journey," he said.
However, LP said El rufai's allusion to his detention in Anambra during an isolated governorship election in the state on the order of Peter Obi and his threat to retaliate when Obi was in Kaduna days ago for an Arewa programme, gave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) away as a party that is intolerant of the opposition.
The LP which spoke through its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, hinted that APC was scared of the towering image of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, noting that it would not have dignified El-rufai with a response but for the fact that he made the comment in Kaduna at a gathering of eminent northerners.
The party also noted that it sounded laughable that a governor who could not sort out the security challenges buffetting his state, could ever contemplate of wishing he could use state apparatus to arrest the presidential candidate of a political party.
"We however take exception to the threat that he has combined forces of all the Security apparatus at his disposal.
This is the same Governor that always cry to the Federal Government to save his state from acts of banditry and terrorism
His state is so unsafe that he secretly withdrew his son from a public school when his state was overwhelmed by insecurity.
One begin to wonder where he suddenly got the control of Security Apparatus which he Intend to unleash on the Candidate of Labour party
We will want President Buhari and indeed all the Service Chiefs to take note of this uterances and take urgent action to call el rufai to order.
This is an indication and a dangerous signal that El-rufai will not hesitate to unleash his lapdogs on the Labour Party because of the fear of defeat awaiting his party at the Poll.
El - Rufai is just afraid of his own shadow, especially his caustic actions when he was the Minister of the Federal Capital territory where he demolished people houses and reallocated the Land to his cronies
One will not forget in a hurry, the jumbo allowances he allocated to a female Corps member serving in his Ministry back then," he stated.
