Detectives have arrested a -48 -year old Pastor of The Light House Gospel Church" Oluwo, Owode Egba, in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State Pastor Michael Abiodun, in connection with defiling and impregnating of a 12 year old member of his church.
It was learnt that the pastor cashed - in on the precadiments of the girl's mother to make her daughter a prey to the alleged defilement and the attendant pregnancy.
The the victim's mother had joined the church as a result of perceived spiritual problems which was claimed to have led to the death of two of her daughters, and fearing that she might lose the 12 year old girl to the fate that befell others, she ran to the church for deliverance and spiritual cover.
The Pastor who is already a father of three, asked the woman to send daughter over to him for special prayer, but when the teenage girl arrived, he took her to a room within the church and raped the minor. This, it was alleged, led to pregnancy.
CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola acting on information, detailed detectives to the scene and had the Pastor arrested after the incident was reported at the Owode Egba Police Division.
Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday.
Oyeyemi said the Pastor had confessed to committing the alleged crime but attributed the instigator to the devil.
He also admitted being the one that deflowered the girl who is said to be a JSS 2 student, according to the police spokesperson.
"The mother of the victim explained to the police that since her daughter has not been menstruating before, it was difficult for her to know that she was pregnant until seven months after.
"The victim, who was delivered of a baby three months ago informed the police that she was threatened by the Pastor of a dare consequences if she informed anybody about what happened between them, and that was the reason she didn't inform her mother.
"The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution," Oyeyemi stated.
