The driver of the tanker laden with about 45,000 litres of PMS was said to have lost control of the wheel on a stretch of failed portion of the road and his truck with the laid fell around 7am at Olambe, Matogun Road.

The impact, witnesses said, ruptured the containers and spilled the diesel on the road before it exploded into huge flame.

The truck driver was also said to be carrying the product to a filling station in the area when the accident occurred.

The explosion and ensuing fire outbreaks razed shops and buildings in the area, sending residents fleeing from their homes to escape the inferno.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Zonal Coordinator, South West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye,  said no life was lost or Injured.

“Though, no life was lost or any injuries sustained, about 10 buildings were consumed in the incident.

“The situation was mitigated with most of the content spilling into the canal close to the scene.

“This saved the community from a serious incident that could have affected more people,” Farinloye said.
