Another Pastor, Israel Adebayo,38, based in Ogun State has allegedly defiled a 14 - year old member of his Church.
Pastor Adebayo who is the General Overseer of "The Beloved Chapel " situated at Iyaniwura street, off Owonikoko street Agbado area of the state was arrested by detectives from Agbado divisional police headquarters.
The victim's mother reported it to the police that while she traveled to treat herself of certain ailment, her daughter who happened to be a choir member in their church, went to Church and the Pastor lured her into his room and defiled her afterwards.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known on Sunday, saying the Pastor had admitted committing the offence during police interrogation.
Oyeyemi stated, "On interrogation, the Pastor who admitted defiling the victim pleaded for forgiveness. According to him, his family and that of the victim are so close, but he didn't know how and why such thing happened to him.
"Investigation revealed that the suspect would have been arrested long ago, but the mother of the victim frustrated the move because she doesn't want to offend her Pastor. But when the victim is continously bleeding from her private part since the incident which happened October 2021, she was left with no other option than to allow Police come into the matter.
"The victim who claimed that the Pastor was the first person to sleep with her is currently recuperating in an hospital."
The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered that the pastor should be transferred to state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He quoted the CP Bankole as warning parents to stop the habit of shielding anybody who indecently assaulted their daughters regardless of their affinity with the perpetrator.
According to him, such parents or guardians may be liable for prosecution for compounding offence of felony.
