2023 Census: NPC, Abiodun Task Ogun People On Effective Participation For Credible Outcome

The Federal Commissioner for National Population Commission (NPC) in Ogun State, Yeye Seyi Aderinokun, have advised indigenes and residents to participate effectively in the forthcoming 2023 National Population and Housing Census exercise to ensure a credible and reliable demographic data base about the state and its people.

Yeye Aderinokun described a credible and valid census figure as a critical asset in nation development and building, urging Ogun people to cooperate and support all efforts at having accurate 2023 census for the country.

She emphasized on the import of valid Census, saying it's key to national planning and decision making process of governance, even as she assured of the NPC's commitment to delivering on its mandate of producing "credible, reliable and acceptable population and housing census in 2023."

The Federal Commissioner spoke on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of Oba Complex within the State Secretariat, Abeokuta during  a 'stakeholders summit' to raise awareness for the exercise and broaden support base for it among residents of the state.

The event which has as its theme, 'Getting the people involved,' was attended by governor Dapo Abiodun, traditional rulers including the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, the Awujale of of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who was represented by the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, represented by Baaroyin of Egbaland, Chief Lai Labode, wife of ex - president Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo among others.

The NPC Federal Commissioner lauded governor Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako - Oyedele and the traditional rulers for the logistics support to NPC staff during the mapping, enumeration, identification and demarcation of areas across the 20 local governments ahead of the main 2023 census exercise.

Speaking later, governor Dapo Abiodun tasked the NPC and residents on successful and accurate demographic data about the state, saying no effort should be spared at ensuring and arriving at a reliable census figure.

The governor said population figure is critical to development and planning, especially in the areas of providing basic amenities, and urged all stakeholders to cooperate and support the process to ensure its success.

In his remarks, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, called for full participation of Ogun residents and indigenes to avoid self - sabotaging, noting that census figure drives political decision making, and office distribution among other issues.
