Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State and Ann Agom - Eze sluged it out in the race to clinch Senatorial Ticket of the All Progressivess Congress (APC) for Ebonyi South district.

After a keen contest, Umahi defeated his challenger, Ann Agom - Eze.

The first Senatorial primary of the party was won by the governor's brother, Austin Umahi, who acted at the time as place-holder for him during his presidential bid.

Austin Umahi withdrew for his brother, and a second Senatorial primary which was conducted on June 9, 2022, declared Umahi the winner, but Ann Agom-Eze claimed she was the real winner, anchoring her position on the 2022 electoral act among other things, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Agom-Eze as the candidate.

However, Governor Umahi challenged decision and a re-run was ordered, which took place this Sunday (today).
