Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ogun State have arrested a man identified as Omoalaba Segun at Abiola Way area of Abeokuta, the state capital, for alleged robbery and being in unlawful possession of 151 wraps of weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp).
The suspect was arrested on August 3rd by a patrol team of the Amotekun Corps while he was being chased by some members of the pubic at Edward Junction, Leme, Abiola way, Abeokuta.
The suspect was said to have earlier robbed one Alhaja Wahab Sadiat, a POS operator, of the sum of four hundred and twenty thousand naira N420,000:00, a POS machine and other personal belongings.
The robbed items including the cash were recovered from him but his accomplice who was on their get away unregistered motorcycle escaped from the scene.
David Akinremi, a retired Commissioner of Police(CP) and State Commander, Amotekun Corps who disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday night, stated that during interrogation, the suspect admitted committing the crime and that he came with a member of his criminal gang, name withheld who escaped with the unregistered motorcycle.
CP Akinremi retired stated further that the suspect initially gave his name as Sulaiman Abu Musa and that he resides in Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta only to find out that his real name is Omoalaba Segun.
According to him, when a search was conducted in his house, one hundred and fifty one (151) wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered.
He noted that further enquiry revealed that the suspect, based on his confession, is a member of Eiye Cult Group which has been involved in violent cult killings in the metropolis in recent time.
"The suspect is being processed for formal hand over to the State Police Command for a follow up investigation and prosecution.
"The Corps will however continue to trail the escaped accomplice as well as other members of his cult group whose names he has revealed to us.
"The Corps once again want to sound a note of warning to all criminal elements in the State that we shall in collaboration with other Security Services continue to take the war to their door steps until we flush them out from our dear State," he stated.
He lauded the efforts of residents in their unrelenting support in the fight against all forms of criminalities and enjoined them to continue in that regard.
