People and residents of seedy Arakanga community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to make roads leading to Arakanga, especially roads linking Iberekodo General hospital down to Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB) motorable to lessen the hardship being experienced daily by commuters and to engender economic development of the area.
The Immediate past Chairman of Nigerian Union of Petrolium and Natural Gas workers( NUPENG) and Current Vice Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Lagos State Chapter, Alhaji Adetokunbo Korodo made the call during Fund raising for the Abeokuta North Zonal Community Development Committee at Arakanga in Abeokuta.
Korodo said the people living in that axis of the State deserved government's attention and a durable roads to boost economic activities, adding that the Community development Associations in the area are trying their best through self -help to attract meaningful development to the area.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Dr. Abdulwaheed Olanloye who was bestowed the patron of the Abeokuta North Zonal Community Development said, government should not be left shoulder the responsibility alone of providing basic amenities to the people.
Olanloye advised CDAs to embark on developmental projects that would enable them access state government grants.
He however used the opportunity to urge community leaders, parents and guardian to join hands in crusade against truancy and bad behaviour of students even as he deplored parents beating up teachers and school administrators in the state.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman Abeokuta North Zonal Community Development Committee (ANZCDC), Chief Ajagunjeun Ayoola, while commending governor Dapo Abiodun for embarking on rural roads work, he urged him to complete the ongoing bridge at Abeokuta North and the road linking arakanga water cooperation Iberekodo General hospital down to FUNAAB.
Ajagunjeun recalled that the Community had carried several self help projects, including training and empowering of over 500 Youths and women on skills acquisition, constructed a customized podium, facilitated 44 Community Practitioners to attend International Conference sponsored by International Organization for Immigration IOM in conjunction with NAPTIP and NOA.
