Operatives of Ogun state police command have arrested four suspected internet fraudsters over the murder of a 20 - year old boy, Alexander Uzoma.

The victim that was initially deemed missing, was discovered to have died in the house of the suspects -  Babatunde Owoseni, Azeez Oyebanji aka Biggy, Ayobami Adesina and Balogun Sulaiman, who dumped his body at Kuto overhead bridge, Abeokuta.

The corpse was later removed by the state public health workers and buried as unknown corpse.

However, the suspects were arrested  after the victim's mother,  Ogechi Alexander, complained at Adigbe divisional police headquarters that her son left home on November 20, 2021 but did not return.

The woman also told the police that before the boy left home, he told her that he was going to visit some of his friends whom she didn't know, prompting the police to record it as a case of missing person at the Adigbe division.

It was learnt that as the whereabout of the victim remained a mystery after some days, the commissioner of police Lanre Bankole directed that the case be transferred to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation (SCIID).

At the SCIID, the Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Nurudeen AbdulGafar led Modus Operandi section, embarked on an investigation that helped identified Babatunde Owoseni as the person who was last seen with the victim, and he was arrested.

Babatunde later led detectives to his accomplices  - Azeez Oyebanji aka Biggy, Ayobami Adesina and Balogun Sulaiman who were subsequently arrested.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday in a release, said the suspects have been interrogated and they admitted that the victim came to their house on November 20.

Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP), stated further that the suspects claimed the boy came to learn art of internet fraud, and that after eating food, they all took a substance known as Colorado which had sedative effects on them and all fell asleep afterwards but the boy could not wake up alive when others did.

"They (suspects) confessed further that when they woke up at about 8 pm, they met the victim on the ground already vomited all over his body. When they tried to carry him, they discovered that he is no longer breathing.

"At that point, Azeez Oyebanji aka Biggy from whom they bought the drug was invited, and he advised that they should throw the corpse away.

"It was then that Ayomide and Gafar arranged for Uber driver to come and when the driver came, Ayomide collected the vehicle from him and used it to carry the corpse to the top of Kuto overhead bridge where it was dumped.

"The corpse was later removed and buried by the state health workers as unknown corpse," Oyeyemi stated.

According to the police spokesman in the state, preliminary investigation had revealed that there was a mark of violence on the head of the deceased as shown in the picture taken by the health workers before it was buried.

The commissioner of police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the investigating team to expedite action on the investigation and charge the case to court as soon as possible.
