The Southern Peoples Congress (SPC) has saluted His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse lll, saying his emergence as the 21st Olu of Warri and leader of the Itsekiri people is an act of God.

The 37-year-old prince and serial entrepreneur, Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, a descendant of Olu Akengbuwa was formally crowned on Saturday, August 28th.

The new Atuwatse lll is the son of the 19th Olu Atuwatse ll, Godwin Toritseju Emiko and Gladys Durorike Emiko.

Congratulating the new monarch on ascension of the throne of his forefathers,  the Southern Peoples Congress urged him to use his office to bring about the greater unity of Itsekiri people.

In a statement by Hon. George Wilson, the group's National Director, Media & Communication and made available to The Daily Crucible, SPC expressed the confidence that His Majesty's "reign will bring true peace, love and development to the kingdom."

SPC also commended Ogiame Atuwatse lll for using the occasion of his coronation to revisit the past and reversed an age long curse placed on Nigeria by his grandfather, Olu Erejuwa ll, following an alleged injustice met out to him.

The group further enjoined the new Olu of Warri to apply wisdom in discharging his duties, even as it prays for his reign to be the best, long and peaceful.

The statement reads in part: "At a time like this when bandits are kidnapping, herdsmen are destroying farmlands and extra judicious killings here and there, we enjoins the Olu of Warri to apply wisdom in discharging his duties, we pray for his reign to be the best, long, peaceful and be more prayerful.

"He should carry his council of chiefs along in discharging his duties, he should always have a listening hears to all.

"May your reign bring unity, prosperity and togetherness to the Isekiri kingdom and Nigeria at large.

"May you also use your good office to extend the olive branch to all aggrieved Itsekiri's to come together to see themselves as one."
