Ogun LG Poll: Protest Rocks APC Over Imposition Of Candidate In Obafemi Owode

... Protesters Allege Ogunsola Adesina Is Unfit To Fly Party Ticket, Cite Certificate Forgery As Reason

By Godwin Akomah,  Abeokuta

Aggrieved chairmanship aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 24 local government election in Ogun state and Concerned Leaders as well as Stakeholders of the Local Government stormed Abeokuta, the state capital on Saturday kicking against the imposition of Ogunsola Adesina as chairmanship candidate for Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

The protesting aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders  alleged that Ogunsola Adesina is not fit to fly the party ticket for Obafemi  Owode in the forthcoming election, citing certificate forgery  and perjury as the reasons he should be dropped for a better candidate by Ogun APC.

Why The Aggrieved  Aspirants Are Against The Choice Of Adesina

One of the aggrieved  aspirants, Hon. Kuti Odukunle Babajide who spoke on behalf of other aggrieved persons, alleged that the Screening Committee members were 'teleguided' into abandoning the damning issues about Adesina in respect of the certificate  saga  by self - centred leaders in Obafemi - Owode and picked him(Adesina) as the party candidate against better aspirants with integrity.

Babajide alleged that the said Adesina claimed to have graduated in 2002 with a B. A. degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University(OOU), Ago - Iwoye, but the University in a letter dated 27th May, 2021 said the 'Notification of Result' allegedly presented as qualification by Adesina during screening did not emanate from OOU.

He called on the party leaders and governor Dapo Abiodun to pick another candidate out of other aspirants, including one that is an accountant by profession, and ensure that Ogunshola Adesina did not fly the party ticket lest APC loses the Local government to the opposition party through likely litigation later over certificate forgery.

... Allegations Against Me Baseless -  Adesina

But reacting, Ogunsola Adesina denied the allegations,  dismissing them as baseless.

Adesina said  "the allegation of forgery and perjury levelled against me by the aspirants has been sufficiently addressed by the Party leadership which refuted same and absolved me of any misdemeanor."

While urging the public, party members and supporters to discountenance the allegations in their entirety, he advised the aggrieved aspirants to eschew all evil machinations and abide by the decision of the Party in respect of the Chairmanship selection of Obafemi/Owode Local Government.

Ogunsola states : "The allegations and claims made by the aspirants were baseless, unfounded and should be disregarded in their entirety. The allegation of forgery and perjury levelled against me by the aspirants has been sufficiently addressed by the Party leadership which refuted same and absolved me of any misdemeanor.

"The claim that my selection was unacceptable to the generality of APC stakeholders in Obafemi-Owode LGA or did not follow due process is illogical and should be discountenanced.

"The attempt by these aggrieved aspirants to disparage notable and highly respected leaders and functionaries of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration under the guise of protesting the Chairmanship selection process is unwarranted and uncalled for.

"The APC leaders at Obafemi/Owode Local Government and at the state level should take note that the desperate efforts by these aggrieved aspirants are being sponsored by selfish and disgruntled elements to malign my character and drag the image of our esteemed party in the mud.

"The aggrieved aspirants should eschew all evil machinations and abide by the decision of the Party in respect of the Chairmanship selection of Obafemi/Owode Local Government.

"I urge my supporters and stakeholders in the local government should remain calm and intensify efforts towards ensuring landslide victory for the APC in the July 24, 2021 Local Government Election in Ogun State.

"I also urge Party stakeholders in Obafemi/Owode Local Government should continue to support the administration of our dear Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in his determination to transform Ogun State through grassroots development."
