Nigerian actress, Fathia Akorede Adunni Williams, escaped what could have led to a fatal accident by a hairbreathe in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as she tried to avert a collision with a reckless commercial motorcycle operator.

The incident happened on Monday morning at OPIC - Iweiroyin axis of the Abeokuta Central Business District, Okelewo, on her way to a location for film shooting.

The actress who started her acting profession in the Nigerian movie industry early 1990s, was driving in a Toyota 4Runner Jeep from the OPIC Circle direction and signaled upon approaching Iweiroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, in preparation to enter the complex but the commercial cyclist popularly called Okada rider in an apparent oblivion, didn't notice it on time.

Then the accident proned encounter ensued while both were coming from the same direction. As Fathia made to branch out to the right,  the speeding Okada rider also sought to over take her from the right hand side too.

A witness told The Daily Crucible that in a bid to avoid knocking the Okada rider down and running him over, Fathia instinctively pressed the break pedal that let out a near interminable screeching sound, even as she struggled to steady the jeep without veering into the drainage system by the entrance to Iweiroyin.

Panic -striken passers - by and some occupants of Iweiroyin complex who were jolted by the prolonged screeching sound, spontaneously yelled and rushed out to ascertain what had happened and who were involved.

The anxious people were only relieved when they saw the actress and her personal assistant emerged from the jeep unhurt but perceptibly panting.

And the cyclist having been saved, sped away quickly after grazing against a side of the actress' jeep.

When asked to comment on her safe escape from the frightening incident, palpably shaken Fathia reluctantly said: "It is Monday morning, I don't want to talk but I thank God (for saving us)."

Fathia who had featured in popular films such as Farayola (2009), Basira Badia (2016), and My Woman (2018) is one of  the top list female actresses in Nigeria and is reputed to worth about $1million US dollars.
