A Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has granted the embattled Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly called Baba Ijesha bail in the sum of N2million with two sureties.
When the case was mentioned before before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo during proceedings, Dada Awosika, SAN; and Babatunde Ogala, SAN, announced their appearance for him while the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Olayinka Adeyemi and four other prosecutors appeared for the state.
Awosika and Ogala as well as the other counsels for Baba Ijesha asked for the actor’s bail on health grounds but the prosecution stood against it.
But ruled in favour of Baba Ijesha after taking submissions counsel of both parties and held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation, resident in Lagos, and must have a tax clearance certificate of three years.
Such relation, the judge added, must also make a monetary bond of N1million to the Chief Registrar of the court.
The other surety must be a legal practitioner whose call to bar certificate must be verified by the court.
He was given up to seven days to perfect the bail order but later released to the head of his legal team, Babatunde Ogala SAN.
The court then adjourned and fixed 26th, 27th, and 28th of July for the prosecution to open its case against the defendant.
