Friends Demand Justice For Ini Umoren As Slain Job - Seeker Is Buried

...Deceased Buried Amid Tears

From Mercy Mbang, Uyo

Job seeking Philosophy graduate, Iniubong Umoren, who was gruesomely murdered in Akwa Ibom state, by an undergraduate student that promised her job, has been laid to rest.

Grieving relatives, friends, students and mates wept uncontrollably as her remains encased in a casket were interred in her father's compound in Ndot village, Ita, Ikot Essien in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Friends and other sympathizers urged the police and the Akwa Ibom state Government to ensure thorough investigation, diligent prosecution of the case so that the perpetrator(s) do not get away with heinous crime.

Earlier, the deceased’s elder brother, Ukeme Umoren, appealed to  Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom to ensure that perpetrators of the heinous crime were brought to book

Umoren said justice when served the perpetrators, will bring succour to the family.

He said: “It is so pathetic to us, we are heartbroken, that our younger sister struggled so much to get an education to the University level to ensure better tomorrow.

“We sent our younger sister to school and she was waiting to get her call-up letter to proceed to her National Youth Service assignment.

“She went to look for a job to keep herself going, pending the call-up letter, but the dream is shattered, we have lost our sister. However, I want to thank the government for coming to sympathise with us in this difficult moment.

“All we want is justice for our sister. Whoever is involved in this atrocity should be brought to book. I know the young man could not have done this alone.

“There are people behind the scene that sent him on this errand. We appeal to Akwa Ibom State Government that whosoever is involved in the gruesome murder of Iniubong Umoren should be brought to justice. We want Justice for our late sister, she was the last child in the family.”

The deceased, a recent graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), was found dead  — few days after she was declared missing.

The state police command would thereafter apprehend Uduak Frank Akpan, a 20-year-old man and undergraduate student in a private university, for “kidnapping, countlessly raping, and then killing of the victim.”

The suspected killer was said to have first buried the deceased in a shallow grave and took to his heels but was arrested afterwards.

How I Lured, Killed Iniubong Umoren — Akpan

The remorseless suspect, Uduak  Akpan, has narrated series steps taken to lure the 26 - year - old Ini to his den and murdered her after he had first raped the girl.

On Friday, the police paraded Mr Akpan and his father, Frank Akpan, at their headquarters in Uyo, the state capital.

Fielding questions from journalists, the younger Akpan said he attempted to rape the deceased and eventually killed her using a "stabiliser" to slam her head.

The confidence with which Akpan responded to questions and total lack of concern for the life taken, forced some on lookers to wonder if the parade by the Akwa Ibom state Police commissioner was not a stage-managed one, raising further suspicion that the suspect might not be acting alone.

Earlier, The Daily Crucible reported David Hundeyin's position that the murder may be connected to an organ trafficking ring operated by highly connected individuals in society to whom the suspect is just a mere pawn and messenger for big 'guns,' particularly powerful politicians, with the Police either looking the other way or working to cover up the egregious sin.

Many held their hearts listening to Akpan's response to questions from inquisitive journalists and couldn't believe it when he assured news hounds that justice would be served in the matter.

"The police commissioner has assured the whole world and Nigerians that justice will be done, so you guys should just relax," he said.

The suspect disclosed that he used familiar "reverse psychology" on not less than six women in the past, but said Umoren is the only one he had killed.

“She is the only one I have killed.”

Narrating the fatal encounter with Iniubong, Akpan said:“She (Iniubong) came for a supposed job interview in which I used reverse psychology on her. I asked her if she can work in a farm where hard drugs are kept as a secretary and she said she can— that she’s ready to do the job.

“When she came, I revealed to her that this farm does not exist. There is no farm like that. It was just a hoax. I told her that before she leaves that I would like to have sex with her and she agreed.

"She gave a condition that I should use a condom, which I did. While I removed the condom, she became furious. She took a nearby stabiliser to hit me on my head and she bit my left ring finger and tried to reach for the wall, screaming.

“While I was bleeding, in a bid to stop her, I used the same stabiliser to hit her. She fell and started bleeding.”

He also spoke on his relationship with Kufre Effiong, a civil servant linked to him in a report, saying Effiong was one of those who came with the police to arrest him.

“Kufre Effiong is my cousin. That was when I was coming from Calabar (to Uyo) because in the morning (of April 30), I went to Calabar. He (Effiong) was the one that picked me up together with the DPO of Urua police station (Samuel Ezeugo),” said Mr Akpan.

He noted that his conversation with his older cousin ”was very short and simple."

“He (Effiong) texted me the number of the DPO. I called him (DPO) when I arrived in Uyo.”
