200Level UNILORIN Student Down With Leukemia, Needs Funds For Stem Cell Transplant In India

A 200 Level student of University of Ilorin, Taofeek Oniwiridi needs the help of the public to live and complete his university  education. And it is urgent.

Taofeek  is battling with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a  life threatening blood cancer.

The campaign for #SAVETAOFEEK has been ongoing on various media platformsl as he needs to undergo Chemotherapy and a Stem cell transplant.

Taofeek was in good state of health until March 2020 when it was discovered that a malignant cancer had crept in and needs help to battle the invasion.

Checks revealed that he has been taking treatment at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and at a time, referred to LUTH, Idi-Araba, where he had to undergo months of chemotherapy and consolidation but, his family couldn’t afford it.

It was learnt that when the illness first showed its hand, the family did not make it public believing it was within their capacity to tackle but having thrown their earnings and savings into it with nothing left, it has now dawned on family members that they could not fund the treatment again.

One of the fundraising Committee said Taofeeq urgently needs to undergo the Stem cell transplant in India with the estimated sum of N30 million.

He added, “It all started in 2020, during the lockdown — Taofeeq was fine when school closed in March.

“His illness wasn’t public knowledge until the family had exhausted their money on treatment at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

“He had been referred to LUTH, Idi-Araba, where he had to undergo months of chemotherapy and consolidation but, his family couldn’t afford it.

”We had to crowd fund to raise ₦3.6 million which was used for the first step of the treatment.

“He completed the treatment in February and was able to resume school for a while afterwards.

“While at school, his health was fine. He was even preparing for the semester exams that started this week…only for him to be rushed to the school hospital, UITH because of unbearable pain and discomfort. He’s still in the hospital being managed.

“The doctors have recommended that he be sent to India for a bone marrow transplant, as that is the best cure for his illness”.

However, as at Saturday, May 22,the fundraising team reported that N 23.5 million has been raised and remaining N6.5 million.

The team added that there is five days countdown, the needed amount must be raised due to the hospital’s claim that the activity must follow one after the other since delay may mean starting all over again.

The report about the fundraising said, “With God’s help and yours, *N23.5 million has been raised so far.

“He still needs about 6.5million Naira which needs to be raised in less than 5 days as he is in great pain.

“He is currently under chemotherapy and would need to go for the transplant immediately — or start another phase of chemotherapy.

“This would cause a reduction in the amount raised for the Stem Cell Transplant and we would be back in phase one; The beginning of this journey. May we not labor in vain.

"We need less than N4million to complete  the funds required to take him to India for the Cell Transplant. N3million has been raised in the last few hours as at today afternoon , Sunday, May 23, 2021."

“Please we need your help to #SaveTaofeeq. Please Donate and Share this everywhere."
