Police Arrest Notorious Arms Dealers In Katsina, Recover Heavy Arms, Ammunition

The Katsina State Police Command  on Monday evening paraded notorious gun runners and bandits before newsmen. 

Heavy arms and ammunition recovered the suspects were also displayed. 

The items include two general-purpose machine guns, one rifle, and 179 Anti-Aircraft ammunition.

Also recovered were 7 motorcycles, comprising 5 Kasea and 2 Royal brands of motorcycles.

The State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Sanusi who paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters in Katsina, said his men and officers were able to accomplish such huge haul of suspects and recoveries following credible intelligence obtained about them. 

The Police Commissioner said two of the suspects  -  Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar confessed to having severally trafficked the arms and ammunition to bandits at Gurbi and Dan-Magaji areas in Zamfara state.

Sanusi also said that the sum of N3, 413, 500 West African – CFA Franc was recovered in their possession. 

Also arrested were suspected bandits including two biological sons of Haruna Yusuf, the notorious arms dealer.

Sandi said:  “the Command in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, trafficking in arms and ammunition and other forms of crimes and criminality in the state, has been following a lead, on one Lawan Zayyana, 35, of Muduru village, Mani LGA of Katsina state, a notorious bandit and arms and ammunition supplier to bandits in the forest.

“In the course of the investigation, the suspect was trailed and arrested alongside with his cohorts; namely: Haruna Yusuf, aged 47yrs of Sawarya village, Kaita LGA of Katsina state, Haruna Adamu, 35 and Auwal Abubakar,28yrs both of Maduru village, Mani LGA of Katsina state.

“Consequently, Haruna Yusuf confessed to being the gang leader as he usually received the supply of arms and ammunition from Niger Republic and hands over to Lawan Zayyana, Haruna Adamu, and Auwal Abubakar who will, in turn, take the supply to bandits in the forest. He confessed to having sold over ten thousand arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest.”
