LGA Poll : Crisis Looms In Delta PDP Over Imposition Of Candidate In Aniocha North

... Aggrieved Members, Supporters Write Okowa, Threaten Court Action

Crisis looms in Aniocha North Local Government (LGA) chapter of the People's  Democratic Party (PDP), Delta state, following the alleged imposition of chairmanship candidate on the Council by the leaders against the expressed wishes of members and supporters.

What is stoking the embers of discontents and agitations within the party presently, is the alleged declaration that Hon Kelvin Okwuchime is the chairmanship candidate of PDP for Aniocha North in the forthcoming LGA elections in Delta state instead of Mr Bolum Michael Okwuchi
but majority of the party members and supporters are kicking at the imposition, saying the illegality must not be allowed to stand.

Acting under the aegis of Concerned Citizens For Good Governance, they alleged that two leaders of PDP in Aniocha North subvert the will of the people as explicitly expressed in December 8 College Of Leaders For  Chairmanship Exercise where Mr Bolum Michael Okwuchi emerged winner, having garnered 13 out of 20 endorsements to defeat other contestants while Hon. Kelvin Okwuchime, allegedly,  never indicated interest in the chairmanship race.

In a letter dated January 3 and addressed to governor Ifeanyi Okowa which was sighted by The Daily Crucible, the  Concerned Citizens For Good Governance, claimed the shenanigans of the party leaders as pertains to the foisting of Hon. Kelvin Okwuchime on them could only be possible with the backing of  Governor Okowa.

In the letter titled "Unlawful Substitution Of The Name Of Winner Of The PDP Aniocha North LGA College Of Leaders for
Chairmanship Nomination Exercise," written by Oyana Alphonsus on behalf of the group, they urged Okowa to intervene  urgently and redress the alleged "illegality."

The group also warned that if the governor failed to concrete action to correct the observed illegality within  days, then, they will be left with no option than to approach the Court to reclaim the stolen mandate freely given to the winner of the election by majority of the College of leaders of PDP,  Aniocha North LGA for the Chairmanship election.

The letter reads in part : "Your Excellency,  it may interest you to know that similar ugly scenario played out in  the late 1990s, during the infamous Abacha regime  and again  during the 2014, PDP,  Aniocha North LGA primary election for  the Delta State House of Assembly when the name of the winner of  the exercise was brazenly substituted with another who came 3rd by the leadership of PDP, in the LGA regarded as one of the most backwards LGA in Delta State .

"Unfortunately, the leadership got away with it  hence, these two characters feel enboldded and audacious to pull another shenanigans  this time whilst , boasting that nothing would happen to reverse
this action of illegal imposition so, long as Your Excellency,  remains the Governor of Delta State as, they sought for and got approval from you to have so, acted.

"However, we are not disposed into believing their tales having closely followed your democratic antecedents especially with the enviable ways you have handled election matters since becoming the Executive Governor of Delta State  and the credible manners you handled three PDP,  national electoral assignments from 2015 to 2019

"Your Excellency,  we hereby , pray that you use your good office to intervene and redress these anomalies which run contrary to natural laws,  justice,  equity and good conscience.

"Your Excellency, in conclusion,  we wish to warn that, should  no concrete action is seen taken to immediately correct this illegality within  days from today, then, we will be left with no option than to approach the Court to seek for redress to reclaim the stolen mandate freely given to the winner of the election by majority of the College of leaders of PDP,  Aniocha North LGA for the Chairmanship exercise."
