Gender Rights Activist, Esther Uzoma, Is Dead

Gender rights activist and convener of Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, Barr. Esther Uzoma, is dead. 

Esther Uzoma who is also the National Coordinator of Proactive Gender Initiative, 
 died on Wednesday following a surgery at a hospital in Abuja.

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room  announced the news of her passing on Thursday.

In a release by Asma’u Joda Co-convener, Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and 
Co-convener, Celestine Okwudili Odo, the group expressed deep shock over the demise of its Convener, saying she "will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with her."

"Esther was very energetic and a committed human rights and gender activist and has been in the forefront of driving Nigeria’s democratic reforms," the release read. 

Friends and associates have received the news of her death with shock and sadness, with many describing her as a woman of beautiful soul.

Renowned female journalist, broadcaster and activist, Moji Danisa, on her facebook page, stated that a "Rare Gem is Gone," saying the deceased has left an indelible mark on her profession, the Nigerian polity and gender activism.

She stated: "Precisely December 11, you stormed the Break it Down set. You did not just walk in, you were so lovely, it was like a vibrant breeze of infectious energy.

"We had what I referred to as my most exciting show ever! You laughed. We laughed. Happily we posed for these photographs, yet another camera crew came chasing after you. 

"You were unstoppable, a firebrand. Full of life, zestful, jocular, bubbly... extremely intelligent and passionate. 

"Life is not how long but how well.
You left an indelible mark on your profession, the Nigerian polity and gender activism.

"Farewell, Barrister Esther Uzoma. 
We are in shock. Absolute shock. May your dynamic soul rest in peace.
Nigeria will miss you, patriot."
