Stolen Mace Of Ogun Assembly Recovered At Abule - Ado In Lagos

The Police operatives attached to Trade Fair Station of the Lagos State Police Command has recovered the missing mace of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The broken and dented symbol of authority of the state's 26 - member
 Assembly was recovered at Abule  Ado  Area of Lagos state at about 8.30am on Friday.

The Daily Crucible learnt that Police operatives, who were responsive, worked on an intelligence from the members of Abule - Ado community that someone threw an object out of a moving vehicle into a nearby bush.

The object was recovered and identified as the Ogun State House of Assembly Mace.

The Daily Crucible recalls that armed men broke into the Ogun Assembly complex in Oke Mosan, few metres away from Governor Dapo Abiodun's office and carted away the House's mace.

The unknown burglars had accessed the Assembly complex through the ceiling in a  pre - dawn operations on Thursday and evaded detection despite security presence.

The burglars also broke into the office of the Speaker, Kunle Oluomo, in search of yet - to - be ascertained items, compelling the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, to visit the complex to assess the situation.

However, the stolen mace was recovered inside a bush in Abule - Ado, Lagos less than 24 hours later.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos state Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed the recovery of the mace  in a release on Friday.

Adejobi  said the recovered mace has been handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, who had also instructed the Divisional Crime Police Officer, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos State, Yetunde Longe, to protect the mace and liaise with the Ogun State Police Command about it.

According to him, Odumosu promised to assist the Ogun State Police Command in the investigation into the incident that led to the recovery of the mace.
