                                    • The suspects

Operatives of the Ogun state police command have arrested three men - Daniel Ikwe, Micheal Tedungbe and Idowu Shorunke, in connection  with the gruesome  killing of one Rasaq Shotunde on Christmas  Day.

The suspects allegedly struck Shotunde to death at Solomo Village in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state.

Daniel Ikwe and Micheal Tedungbe killed the deceased on the instructions of Idowu Shorunke, who promised them the sum of N500,000 after successful execution  of the assignment.

The two then laid ambush for the deceased on his way to the village from Abeokuta where he had gone to visit his son and when he emerged, they used  heavy sticks to strike him down and smashed his head afterward.

Idowu Shorunke who engaged their service had admitted hiring them to kill the deceased over a lingering land issue between him and the slain man.

The Police Public Relations  Officer,  Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this, said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the policemen at Owode-Egba Divisional Headquarters that the deceased was found dead along the road leading to Baseye Village.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the victim's  head was smashed with a heavy object suspected to be a club.

The Police  Spokesman added that
the Divisional Police Officer for  Owode-Egba, Mathew Ediae, mobilized detectives who carried out a thorough investigation into the case, leading to unraveling of the suspects and their subsequent arrest one after the other.

Meanwhile, the three suspects have been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun for further investigation and prosecution, while the corpse had been taken to general hospital mortuary for autopsy.
