Buhari's Aide : New COVID - 19 Rules Not Meant To Deny Church Leaders Offerings, Tithes

- The Daily Crucible

The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta  Onochie,  on Tuesday  said that the new restriction order slammed on churches and other religious centres across the country was aimed at keeping  Nigerians safe from the more deadly and novel variant COVID - 19 virus recently reported in UK and South East of that country.

The Presidential aide said the restrictions  are not meant to deny church leaders their offerings and tithes this period or any other time.

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) had on Monday afternoon  through the chairman, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF), Boss Mustapha, announced  new measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the country,  saying the use of face masks will be enforced.

“Restrict all informal and formal festivity events including weddings, conferences, congresses, office parties, concerts, seminars, sporting activities, end of year events shall be restricted to not more than 50 persons.

“Limit all gatherings linked to religious events to less than 50 per cent capacity of the facility of use during which physical distancing; mandatory use of face masks shall be strictly enforced," he said.

The SGF urged Nigerians to see the restrictions  as a matter of life and death,  lamenting that he has lost more close friends to Covid -19 in one month than in the months between  March and November 2020.

But reacting to directives announced  by Boss Mustapha, Lauretta Onochie, stated using her official twitter account : "Corona virus doesnt show bias. It doesnt favour northerners nor southerners. It's a matter of life and death.

"The restrictions are not targeted at Xmas. They are aimed at keeping us Safe so we can celebrate many more yrs of Xmas in the future. It's a matter of life and death

"This is not an evil government trying to take the joy off of Christmas.
It's a matter of life and death.

It's not a way of denying church leaders their offerings and tithes. It's a matter of life and death.

"It's not in God's hands anymore.
God has given us scientists who have been researching on the virus.

"God has unfolded to the scientists certain rules and the Scientists have given us those rules to follow in order to keep safe.
The rest is in our hands," she said.
