-The Daily Crucible

The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Ogun State, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has described the University of Ibadan
as a citadel of learning that has remained pivotal to the evolution of the Nigerian nation through its numerous products who are variously holding the reins of authority in and outside the country.

Oba Gbadebo, himself an alumnus of the nation's premier university, made this observation at the November UI Abeokuta Alumni meeting as well as the Year 2020 Founders' Day Get-Together hosted by another alumnus, the Ogun state Commissioner of Police, Awolowo Ajogun, in Abeokuta.

The reverred monarch charged all products of the university to make selfless service their watchword in line with the training they had in the exemplary Alma Mater.

Oba Gbadebo attributed the  meaningful  contributions he and his Olori, Dr.Tokunbo Gbadebo who is also an alumnae, have made in their various endeavours in life to the quality years spent in the nation's first university.

In his remarks, Ajogun reckoned that the culture of excellence that he internalized in UI has continued to sustain him in the circle of the best in his profession, urging members of the Alumni to be the best always.

Also speaking, the Abeokuta UI Alumni Chairman, Mr.Femi Adenmosun, highlighted the centrality of Uites to national development, citing Dr. Folashade Esan who is the current Head of Service of the Federation, the incumbent Ogun state Head of Service, Alhaja Selmot Ottun among others as all UI products.

Adenmosun challenged members on the need to rally other Uites with a view to making them members of the Association, saying that the more, the merrier.

Two former Heads of Service in Ogun state, Elder Sola Adeyemi who was also a National officer of the UIAA and TPl Amope Chokor, on the occasion, jointly presented an Alumni plaque to the Police Commissioner, Edward Ajogun.
