Aisha Buhari Hails Groups Over Women, Girl - Child Empowerment Initiatives

Wife of  Nigerian President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has lauded Women Awards Championship International and Nigeria Aquatic Federation for their  unflinching  commitment towards  empowerment of women and children, especially the girl-child.

Mrs Buhari said every effort aimed at making life better for Nigerian women and children should be encouraged as it has the potential to trigger multiplier effects on the socioeconomic development of individual, communities and nation.

The First Lady gave the commendation at the Conference Hall of the African First Ladies Peace Mission, Abuja, while unveiling the giant trophy for the maiden edition of International Women Swimming Championship organised by Women Awards Championship International and Nigeria Aquatic Federation in collaboration with African First Ladies Peace Mission.

The international sporting competition is being put together  to honour the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun and  35 others as well as drum support for rural women and girl-child across the 774 local governments in the country.

Aisha Bihari was represented at the occasion by her Senior Special Adviser on African First Ladies Peace Mission, Hajiya Mairo Al-makura at the weekend.

She commended the groups' cause, saying their vision to empower the women was in tandem with the lofty aims of her pet project, Future Assured Project, dedicated to  making life more comfortable for women and children, especially the less privileged to ensure that they were adequately empowered and protected for efficiency, productivity and  added value to the next generation. 

According to her,  she remained committed to breaking the existing social barrier against rural women thereby given a girl child sense of belonging in line with Sustainable Development Goals(SDG), being one of her core missions to women across all strata. 

She equally lauded her husband, President Muammadu Buhari for his support towards ending all forms of domestic violence against women and girl child in the country even as she  called for further support on programmes and policies that could assist Nigerian women and girl-child to attain their full potentials

In her remarks, Mrs Anita Okuribido, President, Women in Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria who also doubles as the Chief Coordinator of the championship said that the swimming event scheduled for 2021 is being done to honour the achievements of Mrs Aisha in championing the cause of vulnerable women in the country through her various socio-economic development and empowerment programmes. 


Other dignitaries at the occasion were Mr Babatunde Williams, President, Aquatic Federation of Nigeria, International Women Projects Ambassador, Mrs Lucy Adewuyi, Hon Dusa Emmanuel, former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Niger State.
