•Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Babalola
From Babalola Gafar, Abeokuta
A total of 148 fresh students have undertaken the maiden virtual matriculation rite of the Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, with the students pledging to face their studies and be of good behaviour.
The university has three Colleges - Arts, Management and Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences and College of Basic Medical Sciences.
A total of 350 people comprising the matriculating students, parents, guardians, the founder of the University, Mrs Winifred Awosika, the Senate, Council and the Vice - Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Babalola participated in the virtual matriculation ceremony through the Zoom social media platform.
Addressing the fresh students, Prof. (Mrs) Chinedum Babalola, noted that without knowing it, COVID-19 has brought about a disruption in many aspects of man's life, practically compelling education, for example, to go the E-learning mode.
Mrs Babalola, a Professor of Pharmacy, described the pandemic as gold field and urged the students to embrace the new ideas, changes, novel learning and behaviour the COVID - 19 has foisted on humanity today.
She advised them to be regular in attendance at lectures, shun bad behaviours and all vices that could truncate or elongate their educational journey, also reminding them that Chrisland University has zero tolerance for cultism, drug abuse, sexual immorality, bully, hooliganism, corruption, and any form of vice and crime.
The Vice Chancellor, however, appealed to the Federal Government to allow students and pupils in terminal classes to resume school, adding that this would allow for the social distancing rule to be adequately enforced.
She said: "I did mention that we will change the ways of doing things in Chrisland University including the fact that technology will speak for us this session. Without knowing it, COVID-19 has practically brought our education to the E-learning mode.
"There is gold in COVID-19. Dig and you shall find. I charge you therefore to prepare to embrace new ideas, embrace changes, learn differently, behave differently, explore, impact and change your world positively. Devise ways of turning your education in Chrisland to success," She concluded.
Also, the founder Winifred Awosika, urged the Federal government to re - open schools across the country, even if the reopening has to be staggered.
She also called for greater national unity and cohesion, advising Nigerians to shun tribalism and other things that tended to polarise the nation.
