From Jane Okafor, Abuja
There is an in indication that President Muhammadu Buhari has concluded plans to National Executive Council meeting of the All Progressives Congress(APC) summoned by Victor Giadom, who has declared himself the Acting National Chairman of the party.
The virtual meeting of the party’s NEC as announced by Giadom, will hold at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday (tomorrow).
But APC has swiftly declared the purported National Executive Council meeting called as illegal and advised party members, including Buhari, to disregard it.
This was contained in a release on Wednesday by the Party's National Secretary, Arc. Waziri Bulama .
However, Buhari has expressed his readiness to attend, which observers termed, a subtle way of endorsing Victor Giadom as the Acting National Chairman of APC since Adams Oshiomhole's suspension was affirmed by an Appeal Court.
Following the Appeal Court's position on Oshiomhole, the party’s NWC had to announce Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the acting chairman while Giadom also announced self as the acting chairman, prompting many to wonder where the the President stands on the matter.
But in what seemed like a clarification, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Wednesday evening disclosed that Buhari had been well advised on the issue and would attend the meeting called by Giadom.
Garba who spoke with the state House Correspondents while fielding questions from them, said: “The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.
“Because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.
“We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter. In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly.”
However, below is the copy of the statement by the National Secretary, Arc. Waziri Bulama, declaring the tomorrow meeting "illegal."
