The trending death report which followed earlier reports that Ajimobi is COVID-19 positive, was alleged to have been fuelled or accentuated by the tweeting of an investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, who quoted a source he reckoned as "never for once failed me" as confirming that the All Progressives Congress(APC) leader (South), was dead.
The investigative journalist had tweeted :“A source who has never failed me in six years of knowing him has just confirmed to me the death, in Lagos today, of Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State, due to underlying health conditions worsened by the Coronavirus.”
The Daily Crucible recalls that Ajimobi was said to have slipped into coma in a Lagos hospital.
Senator Ajimobi, who took ill in May this year was evacuated to the First Cardiology Hospital Lagos, for special care after he was diagnosed of the novel coronavirus disease, a pandemic that is humbling nations and authorities around the world.
The ex - Governor who was diagnosed of the dreadful disease barely three weeks ago, slipped into unconsciousness on June 8.
Doctors have been battling to revive him.
The highbrow hospital is one of the selected few private health facilities in the Centre of Excellence permitted to treat special COVID - 19 patients.
It is the hospital where the former chief of staff to President Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari, was treated of coronavirus before he died.
It is also where the Senator representing Lagos East, Bayo Osinowo, was being treated of an undisclosed brief ailment before he lost the battle to the cold hand of death on Monday, this week.
When the former governor’s health deteriorated after he suffered c hiardiac arrest the first time and was placed on a ventilator at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) immediately, doctors attending to him were said to have recommended a particular drug for his treatment.
But the drug could not be found in Nigeria, according to sources; hence, a private jet was reportedly deployed to purchase the drug in London.
Ajimobi is said to be a diabetic patient, and coronavirus a challenge for people with diabetes. He suddenly took ill in Abuja late May 2020 allegedly after attending one of the political meetings with his party chieftains.
