Mrs Blessing Idoko, widow of the slain Police Corporal, Sunday Idoko, has appealed to the Federal Government to provide her job in order to take proper care of herself and his only child.
She said the cheque which was given to her as a compensation for the death of his husband was not enough, adding that she prefers empolyment to the cheque.
Corporal Sunday Idoko was gun down by yet - to - be identified killer during the heat of the alleged violence that characterised the March 9, 2019 Governorship election at Eredo - Ipokia corridor of the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
She told The Daily Crucible during the week after receiving the cheque of an undisclosed amount at the State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) office at Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun state, that the money given to her could barely sustain her and his four year old boy for a short time.
She said: ''The cheque offer is not enough to take care of myself and my little boy because of economic situation of the country. I would have appreciated more if the FG can provide me job to sustain my self and my boy.
'' It has not been easy for me, two hands are better than one, with the amount given to me, I don't think I can sustain my self and my little boy.
''Today's offer can not go a long way to solve my problems because I know if he is alive today he will do more than this for me and my little child, but if the government can stand by me by offering me a job, it Will be more appreciated."
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ogun State chapter, Prof. Abdulganiy Raji described the late Police Officer as a patriotic Nigerian, saying the late Corporal Idoko lost his life in the service of the nation.
Abdulganiy said the Corporal was one of the Security agents that accompanied INEC materials from ipokia Local Government to the State headquarter in Abeokuta but team was unfortunately ambushed on the road by some gun men.
He added that the attack that left the Corporal dead did not happen at the Local Government where the election was conducted, but at the Egabdo (Yewa) South Local Government where he was shot and unfortunately lost his life in the service of the nation.
''I want to tell you that INEC has put in place an insurance cover for all the Adhoc staff and security agents and that is the basis for our sitting today. Having done all the necessary investigations and the necessary documents submitted by the police headquarter with the assistance of SARS and the security agents in the state we decided to compensate the wife of the deceased and his son.
''We ought to have done this within a week but it took a long processing if we have had our way we would have done this within a week when the incident happened but it is not too late.
''We thank God this has been processed and we are presenting the cheque today for the mother and the child. This is not a replacement of life so that tomorrow his son will know that Nigeria has not forgotten his Father and when he grows he will know that Nigeria has not forgotten his father.
''I want to say that the name of Sunday Ijoko will not be forgotten and when his son grows, he will know that Nigeria has not forgotten his father and those who were responsible have been apprehended and am sure they will face the wrath of the law," he concluded
