Over a dozen of divers and Rescuers have poured into the Lagos Lagoon, combing water underneaths in desperate search for an unidentified man who plunged self into the ocean from the popular Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, on Saturday morning.
The divers and rescuers who have been mobilised to the scene by the emergency unit of the Lagos State Government, were making frantic efforts to locate and save the man believed to be an Uber passenger.
The Daily Crucible gathered that the unindentified young man had hired a taxi believed to be on the fleet of Uber to convey him to somewhere at the mainland but as the journey progressed through the Third Mainland bridge, he was said to have told the driver to pull up that he was experiencing stomach discomfort.
It was learnt further that when the driver complied, he disembarked, walked few metres away from the car, embraced the bridge parapet/railing and took a plung into the ocean, leaving his belongings in the taxi.
The shocked and horrified driver was said to have raised an alarm to the passenger's risky behaviour, prompting many to gather on the bridge, scanning the expanse water course if they could see the man, perhaps being tossed up and down by the ocean wave.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Nosa Okunbor, who has confirmed the incident, he hinted that a rescue operation was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
"The man boarded Uber from Gbagada and when they reached the Third Mainland Bridge, he informed the driver that he was having stomach discomfort and would want to relieve himself. So when the driver stopped, he got down from the vehicle, abandoned his belongings and jumped into the water."
