A former Minister of Information Chief Alex Akinyele is dead. He died on Thursday after a brief illness according to a family source. He was 81.
Earlier in November 3, 2018, he was first reported to have died in Ondo on Saturday, but it turned out to be false and fake news.
Akinyele, a colourful and power dresser, communicator and orator was a minister of information under General Ibrahim babangida.
Chief Alex recorded outstanding achievements in both the public and private sector, including being the pioneer Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Customs Service(NCS).
However, President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of Akinyele, the government and people of Ondo State, his friends and professional colleagues, urging them to take solace in the lasting legacies of the former "colorful minister, who also served as Chairman of National Sports Commission and Chairman of National Reconciliation Committee."
Buhari in a release by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser (Media & Publicity), described the late Information Minister as a discipline and diligent man, praying that the Almighty God would grant his soul eternal rest, and comfort all members of the family.
"As a trained teacher and Public Relations Specialist, President Buhari affirms that Chief Akinyele’s scrupulousness, discipline and diligence were always obvious to those who worked closely with him, and his love for the nation, which was zealously demonstrated through providing exemplary leadership," he stated.
