Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Adedapo Abiodun and the Bishop of Sokoto diocese of the Catholic church, his eminence, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kuka are expected to attend this year edition of the Toyin Falola 9th annual International Conference (TOFAC) at Babcock University, Ilishan, Ogun state.
Obasanjo who holds a PhD in Theology from the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN) will grace the conference as the distinguished guest of honour while the opening keynote address will be delivered by Bishop Kukah on the topic, “Caesar and God: Prophetic Engagement of the State in Africa.”
The conference slated for July 1 through July 3 is themed: “Religion, the State and Global Politics, "
and is also to bring together almost four hundred scholars from diverse academic fields from reputable academic institutions across the globe.
Other keynote addresses will be given by Professor Ibigbolade Aderibigbe of the University of Georgia at Athens, and Professor Kole Omotosho, renowned writer and eminent scholar.
Also expected in attendance at the opening ceremony to be held on Monday July 1, is the Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Chief Dr Dapo Abiodun, MFR, amongst other dignitaries to be hosted by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ademola S. Tayo.
The climax of the conference will be the Banquet and Awards ceremony at which
achievement recognitions will be awarded to eminent personalities for outstanding contributions towards the advancement of scholarship, culture, leadership, and society. Awards named after Nelson Mandela, Leopold Sedar Senghor, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and others will be bestowed on Professor Bolanle Awe, Dr Awolowo Dosunmu, Professor Koya Ogen, Chief Tunde Kelani, Dr Josephine Okei-Odumakin, and Professor James Makinde on July 2, 2019 at the special ceremony.
TOFAC is annually organized in conjunction with the University of Texas at Austin and the TOFAC Board chaired by Professor Ademola Dasylva, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan. It is notable for the dynamic approach to sharing diverse ideas on cultures, identities, nationalities, and modernism in Africa.
TOFAC Participants will also be treated to a rich display of African culture in film, exhibitions, special roundtables, and tourism, according to
