The Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday afternoon declared the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its candidate in the 2018 governorship election in the state, Ademola Adeleke, as winner.
The Independent Electoral Commission(INEC) had after a rerun in some pilling units in September 27, 2018, declared Gboyega Oyetola winner and validly returned, but the PDP candidate, Adeleke, feeling cheated, approached the tribunal for redress.
After about three months of sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Tribunal held that the All Progressives Congress(APC) and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, were wrongly returned.
It therefore voids Oyetola's victory and and proceeded to declare Senator Adeleke the valid and rightful winner of the governorship election in Osun, 2018.
In arriving at the decision, in a two-to-one split judgment by a three-man panel, Justice Peter Obiora, who read the lead judgement, nullified the supplementary election held on September 27, 2018 on the grounds that the state returning officer lacked competence to cancel election in seven polling units from four Local Governments and orders a rerun.
