Within and outside the Iweiroyin Hall, the venue of the election which had commenced few minutes, men from the Anti - bomb Squad stationed strategically by the door, were sighted screening eligible journalist - voters with their sensors before granting them access.
The tenure of Com. Wole Jonathan Shokunbi - led executive expired since last year but it managed to enjoy a three month of grace as allowed by the constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to make room for the election new set of leaders.
The out - going Chairman, Wole Shokunbi, told The Daily Crucible that the presence of the Police Anti - Bomb Squad is to " ensure security, safeguard lives and properties," advising voters to conduct themselves peacefully and orderly as they cast ballots for the candidates of their choice.
Already, Remi Olugbenro of the Paramount FM, Abeokuta, the incumbent State Secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr Soji Amosu, and Abiodun Ogundipe of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) are in the last minutes subtle vote canvassing through proxies as each battles for the Chairmanship seat being occupied by the out - going chairman, Com. Wole Jonathan Shokunbi.
Other contestants for the position of Vice-Chairman are; Kunle Olayeni of Daily Telegraph, and Daud Olanrewaju of the Local Government Information while candidates for Secretary are: Ayokunle Ewuoso of State Ministry of Information and Oyebade Adegoke; also of Ministry of Information, while for the Assistant Secretary position are: Bisi Alarape of Ogun State Television(OGTV) and Taiwo Abiodun of Daily Times.
