Governor Simon Lalong, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau, has been declared winner of the rerun gubernatorial election in the State.
Lalong polled 595,582 votes to defeat his closest rival, Jeremiah Useni, a retired Army General and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 546,813 votes.
The Returning Officer for the state, Prof. Richard Kimbir, announcing the result on Sunday morning in Jos, said the incumbent Governor Lalong polled the highest maximum valid votes.
Kimbir who declared Lalong winner on behalf of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), added that he has also met the conditions required to declare him returned.
The breakdown shows that valid votes totalled 1,159,954, rejected votes stands at 16,188, while the total votes cast reads 1,176,142.
Also, the margin of victory between Lalong of APC and Useni of the PDP is 48,769 votes.
The gubernatorial election of March 9 in Plateau was declared inconclusive which necessitated a rerun election in 40 polling units in nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state on Saturday.
