The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria(GDPN) Dr. Davidson Akhimien, has pledged that his administration would turn the Sambisa forest into an agricultural hub for the nation, if he becomes the President of Nigeria come 2019.
Akhimien said the project would serve two vital roles for the country - banish hunger from Nigeria and dislodge Boko haram insurgent group who use the forest as cover to launch attacks on people.
The former military intelligence officer added that GDNP would also use economic and social revival policies to create employments for the growing youths who could become ready tools in the hands of enemies of the nation because they were not being gainfully engaged.
The Presidential hopeful spoke in Ijebu - Ode, Ogun State, at the weekend while answering questions from the residents during a rally to kick - start his Southwest Presidential campaign.
He said the two pronged approach would be adopted to solve the security challenges citizens grapple with across the country.
The polyglot who addressed the well attended rally in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba advised Nigerians to take informed decision on who should preside over country come 2019 and cast their votes wisely.
The Presidential candidate recalled that he started his private business in Ogun state over 15 years ago with meagre resources, but was able to nurture it to become a business empire today, engaging about 8,000 Nigerians from across the country.
"I'm a Nigerian, who feels what you feel . We will transform Sambisa forest to a very huge Agricultural hub; a world class dairy farm, training the north eastern youths, massively engaging them meaningfully.
"The second approach will be strictly centred on reinforcement of the military, in social/ welfare packages for military personnel. We will give enough motivation and encouragement.
"Secondly, the military will be equipped with state of the arts, modern day equipments and other military hardwares," Akhimien said.
The presidential candidate urged the people to use their PVC to sack the present political elites who, he alleged, have subjected Nigerians to relentless hardship.
He pledged launch a massive campaign on food sufficiency as Nigerians would be encouraged to go into mechanized farming, citing Sweden and other Scandinavian countries as places where the people are well fed despite climatic challenges.
Akhimien wondered why quality and affordable food could not be achieved in Nigeria with large expanse of fertile arable land and favourable climate.
He also gave insight into how GDPN controlled government would tackle the energy crisis in the country if given the mandate by Nigerians.
He said the government formed by the party would embark on power generation of 25,000 megawatts for domestic use in Nigerian households and for massive industrialization.
