Orie, the over 300 years old market day in Igbodo, the bustling Delta State community in Ika North East Local Government Area, where millions of business activities take place and thrive every four days.
Located strategically along the Benin - Asaba expressway, it is few kilometres away from the Asaba, the Delta State state capital, and well patronised by traders and customers from bordering communities, Local Governments and states like Anambra and Edo.
The Daily Crucible had a brief stop over at the market on Saturday morning and observed that as early as 8am, the traders and all who have one or two things to do in the market, have started trooping into it with wares and cash.
Farm produce - fresh fruits, vegetables, indigenous variety of yams, plantain, maize and industrial goods could be sourced there at affordable prices. Travellers on the Asaba - Benin expressway often stop by to patronise the market.
Hitherto, it was relatively unknown market but the fortune of Orie changed for the better few years after the enthronement of Prince Ikechukwu Osedume 1 as the traditional ruler and Obi of Igbodo Kingdom.
It was learnt that Obi Osedume 1 has continued to leverage on his youthfulness and exposure to transform the market, making it even the envy of bordering communities which had regrettably lost patronages of theirs to Orie market.
Also, the President - General of the town, Mr. Ike Okwaje, The Daily Crucible, learnt is another Pilar that makes Orie, a thriving market it has become today.
Miss Ijeoma Ugwu, a petty caterer, fast food vendor and indigene of Enugu State but resides in Onitsha, Anambra State, comes to the market to sell her Opa(moi moi - like preparation) among others.
Ijeoma told our Correspondent that coming to Orie market to sell her Opa and other items is a worthwhile venture.
